The summit of Diamond Head is a popular hike for visitors and locals alike. The hike includes a trail, a steep staircase, and a dark tunnel to a wartime bunker. From there, its a short scramble to the top. There, one can be rewarded with a bag lunch and a marvelous view of Honolulu, the gentle Pacific Ocean and the islands eastern shore. Its not only the view that attracts. Its not uncommon to be passed by tanned runners, using the steep elevation gain of the trail and steps to maximize conditioning training.
