An impoundment of the Elk River, Tims Ford Lake was formed in 1970 with the completion of the Tims Ford Dam. The dam provides hydroelectric power and valuable flood control to the region. Besides this, the lake offers fishing opportunities for a variety of gamefish species. Local anglers’ favorite targets include black bass (smallmouth, largemouth and spotted), striped bass, crappie, walleye and catfish, among others. The clear water and overall environment make it especially habitable to smallmouth bass—which make up the lake’s strongest fishery. The cold water released below the dam provides an excellent opportunity for trout fishing. Featured Species: Striped Bass (Rockfish), Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, White Crappie, and Black Crappie Map Features: Lake Profile Fishery Information Fishing Tips and Techniques 13
