Pea Ridge National Military Park : Arkansas
During the first year of the Civil War, Missouri was a prime objective of both Union and Confederate forces. Fought on the two battlefields of Leetown and Elkhorn Tavern, March 7-8, 1862, the Battle of Pea Ridge ensured that Missouri would remain in Union control. It also paved the way for Grants Vicksburg Campaign.
