The third highest point in California, White Mountain Peak derives its name from the light-colored dolomite that is common throughout the White Mountain Range. The hike through the alpine tundra to the summit is entirely above tree line, offering spectacular views of the Sierra Nevada and Great Basin ranges. The peak is only a few miles north of the ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, home to the oldest trees in the world: the Great Basin Bristlecone Pines.
